Bolton Wanderers Football Club was founded in 1888 as Christ Church Football Club by Reverend John Hartley and his curate Rev. Thomas Ogden. The club was renamed Bolton Wanderers in 1894 and joined the Lancashire League. Bolton Wanderers won the Lancashire League title in 1904-05 and were promoted to the Football League Second Division. The club won the Second Division title in 1908-09 and was promoted to the First Division. Bolton Wanderers won the FA Cup in 1923, 1926, and 1929.
