Fijian Athletes Coaches And Staff Gather Each Morning For A Worship Session

Team Fiji kicks off day with a song and a prayer

Fijian athletes, coaches, and staff gather each morning for a worship session

Singing and prayer provide a sense of community and strength

The Fijian Olympic team has found a unique way to start their day and connect with their culture during the Paris Olympics: they sing. Each morning, the athletes, coaches, and staff gather for a worship session, singing hymns and praying together.

The tradition started at the 2016 Rio Olympics and has continued ever since. The team's chaplain, Reverend Inoke Bainimarama, said the singing helps the athletes to stay grounded and focused on their goals.

"It's a time for us to come together as a team and worship God," Bainimarama said. "It helps us to remember who we are and what we're fighting for."

The singing has also become a way for the team to connect with their Fijian heritage. Many of the athletes come from small villages and rural communities, and the singing helps them to feel a sense of belonging.

"It's a way for us to express our culture and our faith," said rugby player Apisai Naikatini. "It's also a way for us to show the world that we're proud to be Fijian."

The team's singing has also drawn attention from other athletes in the Olympic Village. Many have stopped to listen and even join in. Australian water polo player Tilly Kearns said she was impressed by the team's spirit.

"It's amazing to see how they come together and sing every morning," Kearns said. "It's a great way to start the day and it's really inspiring."

The team's singing has become a symbol of their unity and strength. It's a reminder that even in the midst of competition, they are still a family. And it's a testament to the power of music to bring people together.
