New Contractor Announced for Banwell Bypass Construction

Work Commences on Much-Anticipated Infrastructure Project

Banwell, Somerset – The Department for Transport has announced that Balfour Beatty has been selected as the main contractor for the construction of the long-awaited Banwell Bypass in Somerset.

Project Details

The £97 million Banwell Bypass is a 3.2-kilometer dual carriageway that will connect the A38 at St. Andrews to the A370 at Sandford, bypassing the busy village of Banwell.

The new road is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Banwell, improve journey times, and boost economic growth in the area.

Balfour Beatty's Involvement

As the main contractor, Balfour Beatty will be responsible for the design and construction of the bypass, including the construction of bridges, junctions, and landscaping.

Balfour Beatty has a strong track record in delivering major infrastructure projects, including the M4 corridor around Newport and the new Mersey Gateway Bridge.

Construction Timeline

Work on the Banwell Bypass is expected to commence in early 2024 and is scheduled to be completed by 2026.
