Dutch Police have said they will not intervene in a planned protest on the A12 motorway in the Netherlands by climate activists Extinction Rebellion, even though the group has said it plans to occupy petrol stations and cause disruption.

The group is protesting against the Dutch government's plans to raise the retirement age from 65 to 67 by occupying petrol stations and blocking traffic.

The Police said they would not intervene, as the protest is not expected to cause serious disruption or harm to the public.

Extinction Rebellion said it planned to occupy petrol stations on Thursday and Friday as part of its "Block the Black" campaign.

The group said it was targeting petrol stations because they are "a key part of the fossil fuel industry, which is driving us towards climate catastrophe".

Extinction Rebellion has also said it plans to block traffic on the A12 motorway near The Hague on Friday.

The Police said they would be present at the protest, but would only intervene if the group caused serious disruption or harm to the public.

The Dutch government has said it is committed to raising the retirement age to 67 by 2024, in order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the pension system.

However, Extinction Rebellion and other groups have argued that raising the retirement age will unfairly impact lower-income workers and those in physically demanding jobs.
